Dan Christian on stand-by for Hobart Test

Updated December 04, 2011 10:32:28

South Australia all-rounder Dan Christian has been placed on stand-by for the second trans-Tasman cricket Test in Hobart.

Paceman Ben Cutting, who was named 12th man for the first Test, injured himself while bowling for Queensland on Friday and will be sidelined for a month.

Cutting's replacement will not be known until an updated squad is named after the Test in Brisbane finishes.

However, Christian presumably features prominently in the new selection panel's thoughts.

"Given the recent injury to Ben Cutting, the selectors are currently assessing options ahead of the second Test," chief selector John Inverarity said in a statement.

"And that process includes planning. As such, Dan Christian has been placed on stand-by for Hobart."

Christian, 28, started his professional cricket career as a top-order NSW batsman in 2006.

He shifted to Adelaide after not being offered a contract with the Blues for 2007-08 and has become a key part of South Australia's bowling attack.

Like David Warner, Christian first made his name in the shortest form of the game.

He has played three Twenty20s for Australia and attracted a bid of $US900,000 from Deccan Chargers at the most recent IPL auction.
