Shane Warne shed the bandage on his burnt hand and had a bowl on Wednesday as he strives to be fit for Melbourne Stars' opening game in the Big Bash League.

Warne, who burnt and blistered his right hand in a mishap cooking some bacon, saw his surgeon on Wednesday morning.

The 42-year-old master legspinner attended an intra-club trial game at Glen Waverley and bowled for about 10 minutes during the innings break, a Stars spokesperson said.

The Stars host Sydney Thunder at the MCG on Saturday night as part of the opening weekend of the BBL Twenty20 competition.

Stars coach Greg Shipperd said former Test world record-holder Warne had lost none of his class.

"He's obviously not 100 per cent but he gritted the teeth as you would expect a pro of his stature would do," Shipperd said.

"He looked terrific out there. He landed the ball as he usually does in good areas with all his varieties so I think he was pretty happy."
