Former Australian women's cricketer Christina Matthews has been announced as the new CEO of the WACA.

She was selected from a field of 34 applicants and replaces Graeme Woods later this month.

Ms Matthews is Australia's most capped female test player and she also holds the record for the most dismissals by an Australian wicket-keeper.

She says she is looking forward to being part of an evolving cricket landscape.

"It a fantastic time in cricket, there's an enormous amount of change, and I look forward to the challenge of making sure WA's at the forefront of that change," she said.

Ms Matthews says the redevelopment of the WACA ground is at the top of her agenda.

"It's a big project for Western Australia and obviously part of my brief is to make sure that goes through, so yes, once I get the opportunity to come over here, we will be spending a lot of time making sure that happens," she said.

Christina Matthews joined the women's national selection panel in 2005-06.

The former cricketer has been the manager of commercial operations at Cricket New South Wales.

She is the second woman to be appointed to the WACA role following the former CEO of the City of Wanneroo, Kath White, who ended her WACA tenure in 2004.
