Updated January 02, 2013 23:49:38

Sri Lanka have recalled mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis for the upcoming Twenty20 and one-day internationals against Australia.

Mendis has not played for his country since suffering a side strain in the World Twenty20 and not played an ODI since January.

Elsewhere, the leading scorer in Sri Lankan domestic competition, Kushal Perera, is charged with filling the massive void left by the injured Kumar Sangakkara.

Fresh from fine form in the Big Bash, Lasith Malinga will also come into the side for the first ODI at the MCG on January 11.

Suranga Lakmal, who was called into the third Test squad as a replacement for Chanaka Welegedera, will stay on for the limited overs matches.

Experienced top-order batsman Upul Thuranga also gives a much-needed boost to the Sri Lankan side.

Sri Lanka's Twenty20 and ODI squad:

Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Angelo Mathews, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thisara Perera, Akila Dananjaya, Ajantha Mendis, Jeevan Mendis, Suranga Lakmal, Rangana Herath, Kushal Perera, Shaminda Eranga.
