We have pace to trouble Poms: Wade

Updated June 26, 2012 08:27:52

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade believes Australia has the fast bowling firepower to trouble England's in-form top order in their five-match one-day series starting at Lord's on Friday.

England has won its past six one-day series on home soil since Australia posted a crushing 6-1 triumph following the 2009 Ashes series.

The hosts have boasted a century maker in their past six one-day internationals with captain Alastair Cook scoring three of those tons and an 80 during that period.

But Wade believes the resurgent pace attack of world number one Australia can trouble the likes of Cook and Ian Bell.

"We have three or four blokes who bowl over 150 kilometres per hour, so it has been a bit of a nightmare in the past few weeks facing those guys in the nets," he said.

"I think we have the firepower to counter those guys."

The fast bowling attack has serious pace in the form of Brett Lee, Pat Cummins, James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson while Clint McKay and Ben Hilfenhaus add guile and swing to the mix.

"In any one-day international team your top two or three players are really important - if they are scoring hundreds generally they are going to win games," Wade said.

"Hence their (England's) record is outstanding at the moment.

"We have to find a way to dismiss those guys."

Australia is set to enjoy an early look at Cook in its warm-up match against Essex in Chelmsford starting Tuesday evening (AEST).

The weather bureau is forecasting clear conditions in Essex for the day-night fixture.
